North West Tourism Board Media Holding Statement – Hartbeespoort Dam Boat Accident



North West Tourism Board is saddened by the boat accident which happened on the 19th November 2016 where four people lost their lives. The Board in turn wishes to assure the tourism sector that this occurrence is an isolated incident, and further to that the relevant authorities such as SA Maritime Safety Authority (Samsa) and South African Police Services are investigating the accident with a view of understanding what triggered the fire.

The Board has also been informed that the boat, named Prime Time, was in full compliance with SAMSA safety standard requirements and further that the boat operator is fully licensed.

In view of the above, the Board wishes to assure the tourism sector and the general public that all tourism activities at Hartbeespoort Dam are continuing as normal as this incident is an unfortunate and isolated one. The Board goes on to committ itself to working with the stakeholders within the Hartebeespoort Dam tourism plant, in ensuring that the sad and regrettable  event of the past weekend is something that should never repeat itself.

Once again, as the relevant authorities will be embarking on the enquiry in the coming week to establish the cause of the accident, the Board wishes to register its deepest condolences to the families of the departed.
