Kormorant was established in 1999 and soon become the leading community newspaper in the Hartbeespoort and Brits area in the North West province. 10 000 papers are distributed every Thursday in the Madibeng area free of charge.
Kormorant plays a major role as watchdog for the community reporting weekly on the issues that the public face on a daily basis. The community newspaper has become well known as a champion of the local residents on social, political and economic issues.
Kormorant has been a regular winner in various categories of the prestigious Sanlam Awards for community newspapers and in 2008 won the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) World Youth Reader Prize for Public Service.
Kormorant is owner managed and in 2013 joined forces with the Caxton group. This partnership also publishes the very popular Get It magazine in the Rustenburg, Brits and Hartbeespoort area. The editorial team are active members in the local community and have a combined experience in the South African media industry of over a hundred years.
